Live streaming straight to the web at justin.tv - I really think this has so many applications, particularly for business.

New links, new social networing things

Posted by Chris Green on Sunday October 28 @ 1:51 pm

I’m still massively jet-lagged after my flight back from San Francisco yesterday, so I’m currently spaced-out on the sofa in the study watching episodes of Come Dine With Me.

I’ve also had a chance to do a little housekeeping on my blog, and have added links to some of the new web services and social media things I am playing with:

Still on the lookout for invites to use the following though, so if anyone has an invite to share, I will be most grateful:

New blogging tool

I’ve played with several client tools for blog posting, as it is not always practical to post straight into a web page (when I’m flying or underground on the Tube for example).

Anyway - all the things I have played with, which have been a mix of Mac OS X Widgets and straightforward client apps have been pretty poor or very unreliable.

I’m now trying out MarsEdit, a Mac shareware app, and so far it’s pretty good. It’s Wordpress friendly, which will work well when we’ve moved the IT PRO blogs over, and it seems to mirror all the important features. But the best bits are the Flickr integration and the simplified process or adding images, movies and other downloadable assets.

Blyk being very, very awkward

Posted by Chris Green on Tuesday October 16 @ 8:06 pm

OK - having completely ignored my numerous requests for a SIM as a member of the press, so we could do some coverage of the service and the ad-supported model it is using, Blyk is making it even harder for us to get a SIM as a member of the public.

The company is enforcing its 16-24 demographic profile rigidly, and despite finally getting hold of an invite code to join the service, I have been unable to sign up.

As I am a teeny tiny bit over 24 years old, I’ve had to pick the next nearest birth date available from the limited drop down menu. Unfortunately, Blyk is then comparing the data supplied against the electoral register or something similar to verify age and address, and name, and if the three don’t add up, they insist on secondary ID, in the form of a passport number or drivers licence number. Both of which in my case give away my age, and thus prohibits me from signing up.

Come on Blyk - I just want to have a look a the service so I can write about it - WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO HIDE?
